ATTENTION ALL PARISH VOLUNTEERS WORKING WITH YOUTH:

This is a reminder that all adults working with our youth MUST obtain the required background checks and attend a “Protecting God’s Children” seminar PRIOR to your start of service.  Forms for the Criminal Background Check and the Child Abuse Background Check are available from each organization (CYO, school, CCD) or you can access the websites listed below.  The parish will reimburse you for the fees associated with the background checks ($10.00 for each form.)  We ask that each individual volunteer submit their own request to the State of Pennsylvania  – either online or via mail.  Once the forms are returned to you, please bring them to the Parish House to be kept on file.  When the forms are received by the PH, you will be reimbursed for the cost of the two background checks

.

** Remember, this information must be on file at the Parish House BEFORE you begin working with our children

Please follow the steps below to submit your request for the background checks:

The required background checks are:

1)      Criminal background check.  You can access the online site at: www.psp.state.pa.us to request your criminal background check.  The $10.00 fee for this can be paid online.

2)      Child abuse check:  this can only be submitted via mail and you must attach a copy of the Criminal Background check clearance.  Visit www.dpw.state.pa.us for complete information.  Print a copy of the form, complete, and mail to the state of PA with the $10.00 fee for the document.  (Keep copies of anything you submit.)

Additionally,  if you are living out of PA, or have not been a resident of PA for the past two years, please contact Linda Branco for additional information/requirements.

Information on upcoming locations and dates for the one-time “Protecting God’s Children” session can be obtained online at:         http://virtus.org

If you have any further questions, please call Linda Branco at 610-872-4739 ext. 130.

Month of Our Lady
During the month of May the children will be praying the rosary in their classrooms for the intentions of all our parisioners.

Principal's Wish List
1. Refurbished Computer Lab (Home & School Irish Night will accomplish this over the summer)! Plus some additional computers and resource materials
2. New refrigerator for faculty room (just donated) God bless you!
3. New recliners for fac rm. (purchased)
4. Air conditioner for faculty room(just donated) God bless you!
5. Additional cabinets for faculty room (purchased)
6. The class of 2007 has donated $650 to the purchase of a Blessed Mother Statue for our school.  The statue that I have in mind for our school is presently at the St. Jude Shop. It is the statue that was used at the Archdiocesan Bicenntenial Mass at Villanova. The statue was chosen by Cardinal Rigali and is beautiful.  It is lightweight and therefore, portable, which is what we want and it would be such a beautiful way of honoring Our Lady in our school.  It is however, very expensive so we are going to work on this for awhile and possibly have "memorial" contributions added to our fund.

Question:  Why send your child to St. John's Catholic School?

Answer:   " I send my children to St. John's because we wanted them to have a Catholic education and St. John's has a wonderful reputation.  I have been told by man in the education field that St. John's is one of the better Catholic schools in the area.  Our "specials" set us aside from the rest." T.Leonard

"My husband and I send our children to St. John's because we want our children to receive the same strong Catholic morals and values with which we were raised.  St. John's has an excellent educational program and a tight-knit community which we are glad to be a part of." A.Bodi

Recently our students in the Primary Unit had an ecology assembly on Respect for the Earth, etc.  The presenter told me she had given the assembly to over 15,000 students in the course of the school year and that our students were the best behaved, had the best attention, and asked the best questions.  Hurray for the students in grades K through fifth grades!

If you are interested in being a part of either our Marketing Team or our Health & Fitness Team which will be planning our Learning Fair for next year's Catholic Schools Week...email the principal.  We are looking for people who are willing to DO the WORK...we already have plenty of ideas, suggestions and comments.

Contact stjohnsprincipal@comcast.net

Plannning Ahead....our fifth grade students will be invited to spend some time visiting our sixth, seventh and eighth grade classes in order to meet the teachers, get an idea of curriculum and feel more comfortable moving to the next big grade!  Next year, we plan to have some phys ed classes for the boys among these grades.  Our eighth grade teacher is also going to formulate specific activities for our boys next school year....they are great kids and we are anxious to assist them in any way we can.  Give your ideas to Mr. Rogomentick or offer to assist him in some way if you'd be available.
